The crew of "HMS Success" is made up of like minded friends, relatives and associates who come together to 'do their bit' for a deserving cause, whilst having some fun on the water. The group of 'amateur paddlers' arrived at Bewl in 2009 for the first time, made some waves and finished third in the final, raising a respectable £4692 for the MS Society in the process. Last year, principally the same crew set sail again and in horrible weather, battled their way to the grand final. In a compelling race, HMS Success finished half a second behind the overall winners, claiming silver in a particularly hard fought fight. The teams effort on the water was matched by a sterling fund raising 'push' which saw HMS Success present the MS Society with a total of just over £7600 in 2010.
Their 'success' on and off the water (over £12,000 has been donated to the MS Society in two years) is more significant considering they are not professionally trained or aided by corporate sponsorship. This year the team is assembling for the last time with the aim of finishing their memorable voyage on the ultimate high - can HMS Success make it third time lucky and better their exploits to date?
18/09/11 - THEY DID IT.....yesterday afternoon HMS Success became 2011 champions. Finishing a second in front of the pack in an 8 boat final, the team recorded the fastest qualifying time of the day (51 teams) and powered to victory in a time of 1 minute 28 seconds. CONGRATULATIONS HMS SUCCESS! Can the fund raising drive match their fabulous efforts on the water?
