This Summer I'm hoping to travel with fellow Durham University students to Mae Sot, which lies on the Thailand - Burma border. For about three weeks we will be teaching English to the children and young people in local migrant schools. Due to it's widespread use, this will prove to be a valuable skill to the people of Mae Sot. We will be liasing with the small British based charity, Baan Romjit (meaning 'shelter for the heart'). This was established after the Tsunami that devastated the area in 2004, and primarily aids children and young people displaced by the disaster. As well as this we'll be liasing with other organisations such as the Burma Eucation Partnershp. This charity is a great help as it's responsible for providing curriculums to be taught in migrant schools, and training for teachers. We will also be visiting an Elephant sanctuary in Chian Mai, situated in the North of Thailand. There we will be given the fantastic opportunity to feed and swim with the elephants.
This trip is the oportunity of a lifetime!
I have alwas enjoyed working wth children and love meeting new people from different cultures. I'm eager to try new things and love visiting new places! I also have a passion for languages, so being able to teach complete beginners is an extremley exciting prospect!
