Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
In February, as part of my gap year, I am travelling to Costa Rica and Nicaragua with the charity Raleigh to volunteer with their projects. The money that I am raising goes straight to the charity which supports developing countries.
is a registered charity that works with young people from all backgrounds and nationalities including those disadvantaged or "at risk" to enable them to make a positive contribution and achieve personal and social development. They achieve this by engaging young people in worthwhile community, environment and adventure projects which meet the needs of people living in developing countries.
The money raised will go towards;• Permanent presence in all our host countries, allowing them to undertake:
o Identification and planning of truly worthwhile
projects
o Follow-up visits to projects completed by
previous
volunteers (this verifies sustainability – they will be following up on my
projects too)
o Constant monitoring and appraisal of first class
rescue and evacuation systems
• Contributing towards the costs of the projects –
materials, specialist equipment, and insurance.
• Their work with disadvantaged young people in the .
Many people do not know about this side of ’s work
• Their programme for volunteers from the host
country
• Specialist kit and equipment
• Costs of recruiting specialist volunteer staff,
including medics, mountain leaders & builders
• Food and accommodation costs. (Note –
accommodation is very basic, usually camping)
I will be staying in Costa Rica for 3 months; firstly completing a project with the community out there. Previous projects have included: construction of a community hall, school hostel and seed-store building, working with rural as well as indigenous communities, constructing a 12km aqueduct to provide clean water and development of sustainable eco-tourism. I will then complete a project to do with the environment with previous projects including, initiatives in one of the most famous Costa Rican national parks, La Amistad, assisting in environmental research and eco-tourism initiatives and biodiversity surveys and the construction of an artificial reef in Curu Bay. I will also be spending a few weeks completing an adventure project, such as, backpacking in the rainforest or Corcovado national park or climbing Costa Rica's highest peak, Chirripó.
As well as this page, I am also planning many sponsored sporting events in order to (a) raise money and (b) increase my fitness for this trip! If you would like to support me for the sponsored events, please do so on this main page, as all money will be going towards the same thing.
So please dig deep and donate now.
Thank you
Hannah
