Story
After a tremendous tour at JustFestival 2013, the University of Edinburgh Chaplaincy is fundraising hard to give Soweto Melodic Voices the best support we can when they return to Edinburgh in 2014, and to develop our Edinburgh-Soweto links and community projects. Harriet, Donna and Ali are running in the Edinburgh Marathon Festival, 25-26 May, to help raise sponsorship for the Choir. Please support us all you can!
You can see a video of SMV's visit to the University at: http://vimeo.com/73294380
The Choir has recorded 2 songs which you will receive as a thank you for your donation.
Song 1: Gaetsemane - in the wake of Nelson Mandela's death, the song Gaetsemane has been heard all over South Africa.
Lyrics to Gaetsemane:
Wayesithi Thixo wami Wayethandaza e Gaetsemane
Masithandaze Elio Eloi Thixo wam, Sizohamba naye Eloi Eloi
Masithandaze wayethandaza
Translation:
My Jesus said let's pray - he was praying in Gaetsemane
He said let us pray Eloi Eloi my God; we will go with him to his Father
Let us pray because he was also praying
Song 2, "Yileswi Yileswi Yileswi Makanana", tells a charming story of a young boy who went with the mother to the sea for the first time. He saw a big thing in the sea and asked his mom what is that huge thing in the water. The mother said "Yileswi Yileswi Yileswi Makanana", meaning "it's this huge huge thing", and using her hands to show the size. The Mother was seeing it for the first time too! It was a German Ship!
Thank you for donating. We hope you enjoy the songs. Please let others know. Thank you for your support. Harriet, Ali and Donna X
