Harrison's Grandfather Owen tragically lost two brothers Jimmy and John in WWII. Jimmy was lost at sea in September 1940 soon after the start of the war whilst serving on HMS Express when she hit a mine off the coast of Norway. John, a tank commander, was killed in the final weeks of the war in March 1945, crossing the Rhine in Germany having fought through North Africa, Italy the Normandy landings and the terrible winter of 1944.
Starting on the 7th July Harrison and I are cycling the 600km in seven days from John's grave in the Reichswald War Cemetary in Kleve, Germany across Holland, Belgium and northern France to Le Havre arriving on Friday 12th.
We will then catch a ferry to Portsmouth arriving on Saturday 13th at the Royal Navy war memorial at Southsea where Jimmy is remembered. Owen will join us at John's grave at the start and support us en route with Kim at the wheel.
We think it is a great way to remember Dad's brothers and wish to support the military charity Help for Heroes - so poignant at this time.
