Hello All!

In a short while I'm embarking on climbing the highest peak in Africa, thats right I'm trekking Killimanjaro! The plan is to raise as much money as possible for an excellent charity which covers a variety of areas and  an array of disadvantaged people. No money raised will be used towards the trip and 100% will go straight to the charities, furthermore State Street will  match donations on a 1:1 basis!*

So why did I choose Lady Fatemah trust (LFT)? Well I'm very familiar with the work the charity embarks upon and  have always been astonished with what they can achieve with such little money- from building schools in Africa, to water projects (constructing wells) and orphanage construction in India, Pakistian, and Afghanistan. The charity considers projects worldwide with what I believe is a fine philosophy of empowering the world's poorest to lift them out of poverty with dignity. A key element for me was that there are 0% admin costs so every penny donated goes straight to those who need it the most.

Why Killimanjaro? The climb has been something I've been fixated on for a number of years and considering the challenge and the fact that I've made it stupidly high profile (telling all my friends and family!) I decided to try to make a bigger impact. One of the most recent projects run by the LFT was to construct two new classrooms and provide desks and clothing for the children as well as a lunch programme. this was in Arusha, Tanzania which is almost the gateway to Killimanjaro...

Small charities like the LFT don’t have large budgets for advertising so funding is hard to come by, pennies quite literally count for pounds so if you can spare anything at all, please do, it will make a world of difference to some very needy people.

"Overcoming poverty is not a gesture of charity. It is an act of justice. It is the protection of a fundamental human right, the right to dignity and a decent life." Nelson Mandela
