In December 2006 one of my friends gave birth to a beautiful baby girl named Ruby (main picture). Unfortunately undetected throughout the pregnancy Ruby was extremely ill. Doctors at the hospital had only ever seen one case similar to what they had with Ruby. Having spent her first few weeks in hospital Ruby was allowed home with her family, however they were also put in touch with Little Havens Children's Hospice.
Ruby's condition is so rare doctors have no idea of life expectancy but having Little Havens available for constant support is not only great for Ruby, but also a fantastic support for her mummy & older brother too, since Ruby requires constant care and attention.
Little Havens provide symptom control and care for Ruby in a homely environment and help to create magical memories along the way, whilst giving respite time to her mummy & brother.
It costs over £2.3 million pounds a year to keep Little Havens Hospice doing this fantastic work for so many families, so any amount you can spare will be greatly appreciated.
So to help I have decided to get into the festive spirit, put on a Santa Claus suit and go on a 5k run around the grounds of the hospice on a crisp December morning!
