I am going to do a complete head shave in aid of three charities to take place on 4th December 2009.
After I completed a 5K run earlier this year in aid of race for life in memory of my late mum who died of breast cancer, I found my personal journey with breast cancer would begin. A couple of operations later and I am now facing the start of the next stage of my cancer treatment.
Rather than make use of the ‘cold cap’ treatment which could help prevent hair loss I have decided to have my head shaved to raise funds for a few of the organisations that have helped me, so that they can continue to provide help to others that will face the same challenges that cancer brings, and remembering of course that it's not just the patient that is affected by cancer it affects everyone around that individual, family and friends, some of which may need more help in coming to terms with cancer than the patient themselves.
I have chosen three charities to help this time around and have set up a page for each one.
The Robert Ogden Macmillan Centre and the Breast Care unit. Both of which come under the umbrella of the Leeds Teaching Hospital Charitable Foundation.
The Breast Cancer Haven
The Robert Ogden Centre is a place when cancer patients, family and friends can obtain free support, information and advice. They also provide complimentary therapies. It is similar to the Breast Cancer Haven but it provides services for all cancers and all ages, not just breast. They have kindly offered to allow my head shave to take place in their centre.
The Breast Care Unit at Leeds General Infirmary. The funds will be used to go toward the purchase of equipment, research into breast conditions and training of staff. It provides services not just for cancer which can affect men as wellas women, but other conditions that affect all ages and relating to the breast.
Breast Cancer Haven – is a place that where people can get free support, counselling, information and complimentary therapies if they are affected by breast cancer. They currently provide this from one of their three centres and by an outreach programme Breast Cancer Haven at Home. I want to raise funds so that they can continue this valuable work and more people can benefit
I have to say it was difficult to reduce the number down to three and could not decide which one to select overall, hence my reason for selecting all three. I thought I would leave the choice to yourself as a sponsor to donate to any one of the three or all of them if you so desire.
I realise that in this age of recession and with Christmas around the corner funds will be tight so any amount is very welcome. I would like to raise as much money as possible for these charities to help others associated with cancer and breast problems so that they may be able to have a happier Christmas.
Please check that you are on the correct page to make sure you sponsor me for the charity you have selected from the above. Please note that both the Breast Care unit and the Robert Ogden centre are collected by the same group i.e Leeds Teaching Hospitals Charitable fund who will then ensure that the funds go to the correct sections
