Bristol Dogs and Cats Home and the RSPCA Bristol Animal Clinic make up the two halves of the RSPCA Bristol Branch. While many people are well aware of the work carried out by the Dogs Home, many are unsure of the role carried out by the Clinic.
This half of the branch carries out a fantastic service to both the Dogs Home and the people of Bristol. The largest RSPCA branch Clinic in the country, it not only treats the animals at the Dogs Home but it provides an essential veterinary service to lost, sick and injured stray animals, subsidised veterinary treatment for the pets of people on a low income and is a first aid centre for wildlife casualties. Clinic staff work closely with our local RSPCA Inspectors to rescue and rehabilitate animals that have suffered cruelty or neglect and also hold ‘well dog’ clinics for the animals of homeless people. Through all this, the Clinic treats an amazing 12,000 animals a year who might otherwise suffer as a result of their ailments and injuries.
And if this wasn’t enough, the Clinic also operates 24hours a day, 7 days a week, 52 weeks a year, ensuring that help will always be available for any animal that is in need of emergency medical care, no matter what time of the day or night! We are the ONLY animal welfare charity that provides this service within the Bristol & District area. We are very proud of the work we do at the Clinic and hope that you agree.
Although we are a branch of the RSPCA, we are actually an independent charity receiving no funding from the National RSPCA, Government or the Lottery. We therefore rely on support from people like you to meet the £4,000 a day it costs to continue our important work giving animals in need the chance for a brighter future.
As Bristol’s own “Animal Hospital” virtually all clinic work is carried out on site. We perform our own diagnostic lab work, radiography, ultrasonography, and endoscopy. We perform ECG’s, dentistry, routine as well as complex surgical procedures including orthopaedic surgery and we have our own intensive care unit and excellent in-patient facilities.
Providing and maintaining the appropriate equipment needed to offer this high standard of care can be very expensive. We are therefore launching the Health & Happiness Appeal which aims to raise the money needed to buy and maintain this essential equipment, giving more animals a second chance for a happy and healthy life.
