Why are we doing this fundraising?

»  To provide and install incinerators, bins and containers for safe disposal  of medical waste.

»  Capacity building and training to the staffs and the medical personnel on the handling and disposal of infectious/hazardous waste.

»  To organise clinical waste collection service for safe disposal.

To date, the Provincial Government of Katanga, DRC and the people of Lubumbashi have taken a number of steps to mobilise their limited resources in response to the waste management challenges. Over the three year period, since January 2008, when the region experienced an outbreak of cholera, HEART has been working with the Government, these efforts have served to improve access to basic sanitation and have reduced the spread of diseases and mortality.

Public health problems are particularly acute due to the improper disposal of infectious or dangerous materials by organisation such as hospitals that lack the relevant knowledge and equipment required.  Medical waste have particularly severe public health consequences including carcinogenic effects, reproductive system damage, respiratory effects, central nervous system effects, and may others.  HEART has completed all the ground works and need your support to make the implementation of a sustainable medical waste system become a reality!

What Benefits will the Clinical Waste Management Project Bring?

»  The benefits to the city and local communities will be visible immediately, with a fall in disease and death numbers caused by the clinical waste.

»  Immediate creation of local jobs and training programs for all participants in the project.

We are focusing to control the most harmful risks to public health passed by clinical waste arising in hospitals.   Your donation to this innovative project will bring great changes and empowering people to help themselves.

Together we can make a difference, please support us with your donation.
