On Monday 7th September I’ll be up on the plinth in London’s Trafalgar Square! I don’t know how I’ll feel when I’m up there – it’s exciting and scary at the same time. I’ll be spending my hour doing yoga in support of The Prison Phoenix Trust. This unusual charity encourages prisoners in their personal development through meditation and yoga. The Trust offers support to prisoners – and prison officers - through teaching, workshops, correspondence, books, CDs and newsletters.
Last year The Prison Phoenix Trust sent out over 5,000 free yoga books and CDs, responding to direct requests from prisoners. For just £5 the PPT can send a CD to help inmates practise in their cell. During my hour, I'll be using this CD just as prisoners do all over the UK, in spaces which are about the same size as the top of the plinth.
