Story
Helambu Project UK consists of a community of volunteers who are united in helping to fundraise and support the people from the Helambu Region of Nepal. Formed in early 2008, the project has since grown throughout Scotland, the UK and overseas as a result of which enough money has been raised to build the Pasang Memorial Community Boarding School, which provides education to over 130 students from historically marginalised, Sherpa and Tibetan ethnic groups. Helambu Project also helps to support volunteers, who have undertaken health camps, taught at the school, worked on organic farming and much more.
None of this would have been possible without the extraordinary support we’ve been received through fundraising schemes, individual donations and more recently sponsorship. At the time of setting up this JustGiving account in August 2010, over £40,000 has been raised within the UK.
We still have a lot of work to do however. As well as continuing to support the school, we remain committed to developing long-term opportunities for education, health work and economic development within the Helambu community.Although we operate as a branch of our sister charity Project Hope, which supports the development of health and education in other areas of the world, Helambu Project operates fully independently in all other aspects - so your donation remains entirely with us. In addition, Helambu Project UK is volunteer run and operated - we pay our own expenses - which means that every penny of it goes directly to the community itself.
