I am running ING New York Marathon on 1 November and hoping to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support in the process. I had to visit the Beatson in Glasgow in April and was so impressed with the setup and the staff that I decided to support Macmillan.
I will try and update this page regularly with news of training (highs and lows!!) and also how the fundraising is progressing so please check back now and again. Click on Read More to see updates
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
So please help if you can and donate now.

10/12/09 - hello again world! Thanks to those of you who are still donating you're great friends and colleagues! Thanks tonight go to the Drs and Nurses from the Glasgow Donor Centre - I went back tonight to give platelets and they had money for me - cheers folks :-) I will keep the page open until the 31 December or thereabouts and then I will do the totalling up and come back and post the final sum. Hope all are well and looking forward to the Festive season, we've started training for the next marathon so that helps to keep the festivities reasonably controlled :-)))
13/11/09 - see nothing for ages then 2 posts in one day - I forgot to say when you look at the finish photo take 1hour and 8mins of the time - that's the delay between Paula and co starting and me starting :-)
13/11/09 Well at last!!
There have been huge problems with the site and I haven't been able to update this since 30/10/09 - not for the lack of trying I can assure you! However I worked out that there must be a limit on the amount of text on the page so I have cut off all the earlier text which means is this is your first visit here you've missed all the previous ramblings about my training and fundraising :-)
However the most important thing - New York Marathon 2009 was AMAZING!!! From start to finish it was just one huge party! The course was great - bit hillier than you might think but nothing unreasonable given where we live, and the support of 2million people was just the most incredible thing I have ever felt. They were awesome absolutely incredible, you really felt like you were being carried along on a wave - at least I did not all my friends and definitely not my husband would agree :-)
We had a great great experience and a fab weeks holiday in New York afterwards - we walked miles and miles every day but it helped to ease out the legs. I didn't have so much as a blister after the race nor even desperately sore legs. There were 92 other runners raising funds for Macmillan and I met a few of them on the course - the Macmillan cheering stations were such a boost at miles 16 and 24 - I could ramble about this for hours and probably already have and bored all my friends but it was once again the most amazing thing I have ever done - so much so that I think I will enter again for next year - if I don't get in it will be the first of the 3 strikes and your out so I will at least get back in 2012 at the latest. I might even fundraise again as people were so generous this time.
I will come back and update again as the funds are still coming in and will let you know the grand total before I close off the page so it's not too late if you'd like to make a donation. To all of my friends and colleagues who have donated so far, many many thanks again!! Cheers Hx
29/10/09 Good trip, lots of snifflers and sneezers on the plane but then we've both been sniffling since we got our flu jabs 2 weeks ago, though hopefully just about cleared up. Having 2 days pre-race R&R in Atlantic City - it's definitely different!! Just had a 5mile jog along the boardwalk it was quite surreal :-) Tomorrow we head up to NYC and go to the expo then move into our appartment and meet up with our Canadian friends, so will be a hectic weekend!
27/10/09 (2) Well this is it the next update will be from the good ol' US of A. Just one more huge Thank You to everyone for their donations and good wishes and messages of support - as I log off the total is now £1350 and there's more to come in :-) Fingers crossed for us that the weather is kind and the Marathon Gods smile on us and the other 39998 mad souls who be up before dawn on Sunday morning! A Bientot, Tot ziens, Bis Morgen!!
