I normally spend my time doing volunteering work or donating to various charities. So I thought it was about time I did something to raise money myself for charity. So me being me I thought why not jump literally into the deep end.

So I have chosen to raise money for Community Links Jump Day to parachute against poverty. Only a few thousand feet tandem skydive. No biggie.

I will feel really happy if you can take the time to sponsor me and help me to make a difference to those less fortunate than ourselves. Please feel free to pass this link onto anyone you know who enjoys helping worth while causes.

Update:

Today was meant to be my jump day. The universe decided that it wasnt. I had to travel from London to a place in March in Cambridgeshire, as I was meant to be there for 8am or earlier if possible and its quite a journey I decided to travel Friday night. I get a bit tetchy if I am late for anything. So I telephoned the company and apparently you can stay on site at the airfield. £18 Result!
Friday I set off about 8pm from Kings Cross Station its about £40 return. I travel to Cambridge to get the Train to March to be told that the last train to March was at 9pm. The best bet will be to get a train to Ely and then get a taxi to the airfield. Its about 9:15pm and the next train to Ely is in half an hour. So I sit and wait. Finally I get on the train to Ely. The only way I can get from the Station to Ely is by taxi. So a taxi pulls up and he does not know where it is. So he phones a collegue and the collegue tells him where to go. So we set off.
We get to the area of the destination and the driver does not feel we are in the right area so after driving around for a while and him stopping off and knocking on a random door to ask for directions (and they say men dont do this) we eventually arrive at the airfield at 11:20pm. £40

The driver was lovely and made sure that we were in the right place and that I can get into the room at the accomodation. (The place is cold and windy and deserted). There was a room with a bed in it and no heating..I decided against pyjamas and literally went to bed fully clothed and with 2 duvets on the bed and pulled them over my head.

I woke up next morning at 7:30am and literally just had a wee and a wash and cleaned my teeth and went to register. And to see if I was able to get a warm tea just to warm up a bit.

After filling in all the forms I was then informed that there was literally zero chance of jumping today due to the gales. But now that I am registered they will do the training and then I will be given a voucher so that I can come back and do the jump within the next 6 months. They told me to go wait in the canteen and they will call me when they are ready to start the training.

2 hours and 2 cups of tea and a bacon sandwhich later and £5 down. I am called to do the training. Literally told and shown what I must do to live and really what I should not do unless I want to kill myself and my instructor. Blimey, this was when I realised this was quite a feat I am doing for charity. There was me thinking it was no biggie. Then all about the weather and I can only jump if the wind speed is less than 23mph and there is sun or sunny intervals and have to watch the met forecast for the next 6 months to find out when it is safe to jump.

Half an hour later and the training is finished. I call a cab company to come and get me and take me back to March station. £14. Jump on the train at 11:08, 10 minutes to Ely. Wait 20 minutes for the next train. Change at Ely 10 minutes to Cambridge. Wait about another 20 minutes and then I am on the train from Cambridge to London. At about 12:30 the train stops. At 13:57 the train still has not moved. We had a power failure and then a train failure and have to wait for another train to come and get us.

Eventually after climbing down a ladder to get out of a train and climbing up a ladder to get back into another train I eventually arrive in Kings cross at 16:30. The gales are just as strong in London and I am tired and exhausted and now just want to get home so I head for the taxi rank. Walking up to the taxi rank and a huge gust of wind sends my hat floating through the air and then into the road of an oncoming taxi. I watch him drive over it. At that precise moment I decided to say farewell to the hat and carry on with the journey home. Another taxi beeps his horn at me, I look at him and he points behind me. There is another driver who went and rescued my hat. Hands it to me and says "just dont put it on". I put it in my bag and now just want to get home. Jump in a taxi and get home at about 5pm. £20

I find the title of the jump now almost hillarious. So a non jump for charity and £137 lighter I have learnt that taxi drivers are wonderfully helpful and men do ask for directions and jumping out of planes, you really must take quite seriously.

N.B - I will update everyone that has sponsored me on when I finally have jumped :-)
