THE CHALLENGE.
We've decided to take part in the 15-50 November Sun Run from the 4th-7th November 2009 in France.
This is a classic car challenge and we'll be competing against 24 other enthusiasts in our 1974 Alfa Romeo Spider appropriately named 'Babe'.
It's a 4-day event covering some of the classic rally routes taken by the big events, passing through the breathtaking mountains of Alsace, Vosges and finishing in the high mountains of Jura covering over 1400 kms. It's a tough challenge for the crews as well as the cars. Not only will we be enduring tough weather conditions but our navigation skills will be tested to the extreme. Apparently it's not a race (hmmm...better watch that heavy right foot). There's no GPS allowed so if we detour (i.e. get lost) and miss a check point or start late we accumulate points...which is bad news! The crew with the least points wins. Just to add to our adventure, we have to inform you that Babe has no heating (we'll definitely freeze but the champagne will be nicely chilled) and the windscreen wipers have always had a mind of their own. But on the whole she's quite reliable.......not bad for an old girl!
We intend to do it 'al fresco' or should I say 'topless' but if the weather conditions get really severe we may have to succumb to raising the roof.
We're thoroughly looking forward to it and are funding the trip entirely ourselves, which means every penny you donate goes straight to the Lymphoma association. We realise times are tough at the moment and we've tried to set a realistic target, but it would be terrific if we could exceed it. The more we raise the more research can be done to help find a cure so please give as much as you can afford. We'd really appreciate it and don't forget to Gift aid it.
