My story
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
This September, Adele Baker and Jayne Barrow will trek for six days amongst the Himalayan Annapuras. The two Pickering lasses, who met at their local branch of Slimming World, have promised to raise a minimum of £6,400 between them to help fund groundbreaking medical research work at a major research institute at Hammersmith Hospital in London. Between them, Adele and Jayne have lost almost six stone so the amount they hope to raise equates to just over £1000 per each stone lost. “We saw the advert in Slimming world magazine for the trek and thought, not only would it be an amazing challenge and adventure, but a way of celebrating our new slimmer selves, said Jayne. "With a combined age of 92 we shall be donning our walking boots, packing our zimmer frames and traipsing off into the unknown." "As we are both mums, we would be raising money for a cause that is close to our hearts," says Adele. The 'girls' are organising lots of fundraising events over the coming ten months, as the deadline for collecting the total amount is next June.
“Funds raised by Adele and Jayne will support women scientists and clinicians to specialise in research affecting women and their babies – empowering more women to lead in this field. They will work in the research centre to improve prevention, diagnosis and treatment of a range of devastating conditions which cause miscarriage, genetic diseases, infertility and cancer. With nearly 250 babies dying every week in the UK from complications during pregnancy, our work has never been so essential for women and babies, nationwide”, says Professor Winston, Chairman, Genesis Research Trust.
