Story
Our beautiful little boy Hugo was born sleeping just past his due date on 18th April 2011.
He looked perfect. When we returned home after two days in hospital with him, our garden had become completely covered in bluebells. We now associate this pretty flower with Hugo.
Around 11 babies are stillborn every day in the UK and in a high percentage of cases there is no cause found.
At our hospital there is a special room called the "Someries Suite" which is set aside for families with stillborn or premature babies. It is situated away from the main delivery area of the Maternity Unit and is fully self-contained, which means parents do not have to be around other mothers and babies at such a difficult time. This page is to raise money for this suite and to provide parents in situations like our own to have a fitting place to deliver and spend time with their babies.
Work has now been completed on the room! It has been painted a lovely warm lilac colour, the bathroom has been totally gutted and replaced with a new suite and the sitting room area has also been painted and furnished. All the soft furnishings are in, including curtains and a sofa, to make it as homely as possible. Most astonishingly (unbeknown to us) and a complete coincidence, some pictures of a bluebell wood have been bought for the walls!
UPDATE April 2016 - it has now been 5 years since we lost Hugo and I'm ecstatic to say that our hospital now has THREE "cuddle cots" that mean parents can stay longer with their babies without the pressure that they have to give them back before their condition deteriorates.
They also now have a proper bereavement care system for parents and midwives and doctors are now trained to give the proper care needed in these situations. An amazing advancement!
**They currently want to raise money to buy a DOUBLE BIRTH BED for the room and I am consulting with the lead Midwife dealing with the fundraising to see what else is needed. **
WHAT BETTER TO DO FOR HUGO'S 5TH ANNIVERSARY!
If you can donate even just £1 to help us, we would be incredibly grateful.
Many thanks,
