Our beautiful little boy Hugo was born sleeping just past his due date on 18th April 2011.
He looked perfect. When we returned home after two days in hospital with him, our garden had become completely covered in bluebells. We now associate this pretty flower with Hugo.
Around 11 babies are stillborn every day in the UK and in a high percentage of cases there is no cause found.
At our hospital there is a special room called the "Someries Suite" which is set aside for families with stillborn or premature babies. It is situated away from the main delivery area of the Maternity Unit and is fully self-contained, which means parents do not have to be around other mothers and babies at such a difficult time.
We are hoping to raise money to help fund a complete overhaul of this much needed room. A large amount will be used to totally update the bathroom, plus more will be used to make the room more homely with lighting and furnishings. An MP3 dock will also be provided for use in this room.
We are also hoping to eventually be able to raise enough for a "Cold Cot" to be provided sometime in the near future.
These look like conventional ward cots, but allow a stillborn baby to to be left with its parents a little longer and can help if a post mortem is to be done. This will hopefully provide more research into why the statistics are so high in this country. The midwives who looked after us so amazingly have said that a cot like this would be something that would be used to great effect and sadly quite frequently.
If you can donate even just £1 to help us, we would be incredibly grateful.
Many thanks,
Rebecca & Russell Swift
