I will be walking
from LONDON to PARIS

“Walking is fundamentally humbling. It costs us nothing.
It links us to those who themselves have nothing.
It is associated with peasantry and yet it is elevating.
The Journey Itself
I will be leaving from my flat in Notting Hill early on the morning of Saturday 3rd July, giving me three full days to reach Newhaven and catch my ferry to Dieppe, which leaves around 10pm on the night of Monday the 5th. For these first three days I will be walking around 25 miles a day as I will be going to Newhaven via Brighton. I won’t be able to afford proper accommodation for most nights and will mainly be camping, but I will try to find accommodation every third night to give my body some good time to recuperate.
When I reach Dieppe, at around 3 in the morning, the real journey will begin as I have no idea how walking will be in France compared to England. I will sleep in my tent until the late morning and then set off for Paris. I will be walking to Paris via Rouen. I aim to reach Rouen by the night of Thursday 9th, giving me around three days to reach the historic city from Dieppe. Once I am in Rouen, I will have my first full day of rest and check myself into a hotel. I will then leave for Paris on early Saturday morning. This final stretch will be an 80 mile journey, meaning that if I average around 20 miles a day, it will take a four days to get from Rouen to Paris.
My final destination will be the theatre ‘Folies Bergere’ on Rue Richter, which is the site of the inspiration of my favourite painting by Edouard Manet. Once I am in Paris, I will do everything in my ability to live like a King.
I will take the Eurostar back to London on Sunday 18th July, ready for work the following morning.
