The IDE North West Committee have committed themselves to raising £15,000 a year for the next 3 years to support the SWAP project.

The Sustainable Water for Agriculture Project (SWAP) requires £45,000 over three years to significantly improve the nutrition and food security of poor households in Bangladesh. In order to achieve this, iDE will build upon its extensive experience to introduce innovative water technologies in conjunction with training and support, which will considerably increase the productivity and incomes of smallholder farmers.

The Sustainable Water for Agriculture Project (SWAP) will considerably improve the food security and nutrition of poor and vulnerable rural and urban households, especially women and children, in Bangladesh. Specifically, SWAP will facilitate the adoption of productive and environmentally sustainable water technologies by smallholder farmers, as well as providing training to service providers to give smallholders ongoing support. This will enable farmers to increase their incomes as vegetable and grain productivity is enhanced whilst being of further benefit to urban consumers who will have improved access to affordable and nutritious food. As such, SWAP will directly address the issues of food insecurity, malnutrition and poor uptake of technologies across agricultural sectors. Furthermore, by linking low-cost technologies to the private sector, the project will cost-effectively and sustainably expand these proven technologies and the market for nutritious foods.
