We fund research to stop prostate cancer killing men

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

One of my closest friends is currently under treatment for Cancer (lymphoma specifically) having just had a low intensity graft. This is after he was rediagnosed following approximately 2 years in remission. Some of you know him, but I won't embarass him directly by naming him.

I have been extremely inspired by his courage, and more importantly his amazing frame of mind. He just never gives in, and I am happy to say that while it is early days he is recovering rapidly.

I have therefore decided it is time I got into better shape and start emulating some of his mental strength to improve my overall health.

Additionally I want to raise money for cancer research. I asked my friend to nominate a charity and he very humbly suggested Prostate cancer as he felt that it does not get the recognition it deserves, as compared to lymphoma and breast cancer for example.

So, I have decided to bravely/foolishly ( I choose the option that fits depending on the day) to ride a bicycle from to .

Here is a brief snapshot of my itinerary

Day 1: London to Calais (fortunately this is not a triathlon, so we will catch the ferry rather than swim)95 miles (approx)

Day 2: Calais to Abbeville75 miles (approx)

Day 3: Abbeville to Beauvais70 miles (approx)

Day 4: Beauvais to Paris60 miles (approx)

Yes, you read right. I will be riding 300 miles, or 495km for those of you using the correct unit of measure ( the French were responsible for this after all)

I will be doing the ride in May 2010, to give me sufficient time to train and get fit enough for the ride. My friend who is battling cancer, is an avid cyclist himself and has offered to build me a bicycle for the event. (sadly, it won't have an 1100cc motor like my preferred bike)

So I ask humbly, if you would be prepared to make a donation so I can raise the money needed for my nominated charity. I have chosen The Prostate Cancer Charity.

The Prostate Cancer Charity  set up in 1996 in response to the urgent need to increase investment in prostate cancer research and to raise public and political awareness of a long neglected disease. They are now the UK’s leading voluntary organisation working with people affected by prostate cancer.

Their vision is a world where lives are no longer limited by prostate cancer. Their mission is to fight prostate cancer on every front – through research, support, information and campaigning.

I hope that you can see you way to helping me achieve my goal of raising over £1300 for a worthwhile charity which does not get enough recognition. If you feel you help in any way, I would truly appreciate it. I need to have 80% of the money raised by 03/03/10, so dig deep and dig fast.

Thanks, and wish me luck
