Story

Update : 5 September 2012 : The Great North Bike Ride was a great day out and a huge success, all thanks to your extremely generous donations.

If anyone would like updates on Phoebe's progress please feel free to contact my sister on lesleyannepace@me.com, she would love to hear from you and thank you personally for your kindness.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As many of you already know, my niece Phoebe has been very seriously ill.

In October last year, completely out of the blue, Phoebe suffered acute liver failure.  Phoebe was taken to an emergency GP appointment and from there sent straight to her local hospital the QE in Gateshead, days later she was transferred to Leeds General Infirmary (formerly Jimmys), many tests were carried out to find out what had caused her liver to start failing. Within 6 days of arriving at Leeds, Phoebe suffered complete liver failure and was transferred to ICU.  Her consultants decided the only way to keep Phoebe alive was for her to receive a liver transplant she was added to the Super Urgent Transplant List as she was only expected to survive a few days without it.  36 agonizing hours later, Phoebe started her 9 hours of surgery to receive 1/6 of an adult male liver.  Thanks to her doctors, nurses and ultimately the kind generosity from her donor Phoebe has made an amazing recovery and is now almost 6 months post transplant.

Phoebe was diagnosed with Non A to E Hepatitis, caused by a virus. This is as much information her Mother has been given, one of her consultants told her 'we know its non of the A to E's, in ten years time I may be able to tell you it was Hepatitis T, but at this moment in time, we havent discovered it'.

More research needs to happen to give answers to people like my sister and help children like my niece.

Please help in anyway you can.
