Story

Update: 20/April/2014

Many of you may not be aware that I lost both my father and husband within a year of each other, both from blood clots in the lungs (P.E.'s).

My father had suffered several strokes, but unfortunately undetected by doctors my fathers cancer had progressed to an advanced stage where the options available to make his life more "comfortable" were limited.  These involved drugs which increased his risk of blood clots, which in his instance did not pay off.   Len had been unwell with a "flu like" bug and advised to take bed rest, which after a few days begun to feel better and get up and about.  This led to a clot dislodging and reaching his lungs.....

As a result of this my mother Shirley and I wanting to promote awareness of DVT and help fund research into this silent killer.

Mum has requested that instead of presents for her 70th birthday, please make a donation to Lifeblood, which if done online can be easily gift aided, meaning the charity gets back 25% in tax on your donation.

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page in memory of Ian.

Many of you have been asking whether we are wanting flowers or donations to charity. Even though we do not yet have date for the funneral we are thinking of family only for flowers (however none will be turned away).

We have chosen this charity in Ian's memory to try and help in preveting this happening to someone else. Ian first had a blood clot in his intestines in 1998 when he died three times in surgery shortly after our wedding.

We then had a relatively "normal" 14 years of married life until January of this year when he had developed another blood clot in his bowl. Ian has been unwell since then and was readmitted to hospital in July for a further three weeks undergoing numerous tests.

We had been lead to believe Ian was finally on the long road to recovery and was due to see the consultant the week after he died to discuss his return to work!

Ian's death was a result of DVT leading to multiple blood clots in his lungs, despite being on medication to prevent this.

Even though this will be too late to help Ian, I can only hope we have help to prevent this happening to anyone else.
