I'm back from the trip. The big day on July 3rd went nearly to plan - I at least made my target of finishing the circuit to the base of Alp d'Huez but the final climb turned out to be a climb too far. I'd spent 8 hours and 40 minutes in the saddle to that point, cycled 102 miles (164kms) and climbed nearly 13,000 feet (3900m) vertically. A few days later I climbed Alp d'Huez before breakfast to make sure there was no unfinished business.
It was a really tough challenge but made easier by the motivation, encouragement and generous donations from you and many others. I'm pleased to say my target for fund raising was wonderfully exceeded.
I'm donating to Help the Hospices. Money they raise goes to organisations who deliver end of life care to the terminally ill. During my Granny's long battle with cancer, I realised just how important this cause is.
