‘Isle of Bute- Rock around the clock RIDE24 hour challenge’
12 Noon June 19/20 2010
The aim of the challenge is to raise funds for BRAKE the road safety charity & to promote Bike week 2010.
Please take time to visit the BRAKE website who strive to make our roads safer. They have a long history of supporting families who have been affected by a serious road accident. BRAKE also campaign against the pollution created by motorised transport.
To raise money for BRAKE we will organise a 24 hour relay of the main 23 mile circuit of this beautiful island. We will start at 1pm Saturday 19th of June & finish at 1pm on Sunday the 20th June. At 10am on Sunday those of us involved in the Rock around the clock RIDE24 hour challenge will join other cyclists attending the 'Cycle Bute 'national bike week event.
The Rock around the clock RIDE24 hour challenge is dedicated to the memory of our nephew James Moodie who at 17 years of age died in a car crash in September 2008. His school friend Max, who was also a passenger in the car, died too. James enjoyed his visits to Scotland & the Isle Of Bute. A keen rugby player, he loved being active & being amongst nature. James is very muched loved and very much missed by his family & friends.
If you want to be part of the challenge please get in touch. You can do as little or as much of the circuit as you want. The roads are peaceful and the views are stunning (even when its raining)! Some people have already pledged to do a full 23 mile circuit. Others, like Ian, will attempt to do 200 miles of cycling over the 24 hours.
The Isle of bute is located in the Firth of Clyde & can be reached by train from Glasgow & then a short ferry ride from Wemyss bay. If you don't have a bike or don't want to bring your own, you can hire a bike from 'The Bike Shed' in Rothesay.
