Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

This year was a mile stone for me as in July I reached the golden age of 50. Back in February I saw an advert for the Great North Run. The next thing i knew I had applied and lo and behold was accepted. Wow how did that happen? I don't do long distances -  I was born to be a sprinter or in other words quick over 10 yards and I always looked on in awe of anyone doing a long distance. My family thought I was having a mid life crisis, ‘most men buy a sports car’ they said!!!! But as is the norm with my family they are supporting me all the way. Wendy is helping me raise lots of money whist Sally and Clare brought me an iPod so I can listen to music whilst I run. Training is so hard but at least learning to  sing the ‘correct’ words to songs is improving between gasps for air.

The next step was to decide which charity to run for? That was easy - I am running for Myeloma. For those of you who do not know,  Wendy's mother was diagnosed with the Myeloma in December last year. I have seen the highs and lows of this disease and the treatment, and only now begin to understand the support the relevant charities give to suffers and their loved ones.

What is Myeloma?

Myeloma is an increasingly common cancer of plasma cells. Plasma cells are found in the bone marrow and are responsible for the protecting the body against infection.

In myeloma, a single defective plasma cell (a myeloma cell) multiplies rapidly, displacing the healthy bone marrow. The myeloma usually appears in several areas of the body, which is why it is sometimes referred to as multiple myeloma.

About Myeloma UK

Registered as a charity in 1997, Myeloma UK is the only organisation in the UK dealing exclusively with myeloma and its related disorders.

Nowplease think of me on the 20th of September - my little legs doing twice the work of the larger runners and if that brings a smile to your face please give a little money.
