For many of you the message and the plea will sound remarkably similar to a request for support that I made on behalf of the International Childcare Trust 12 months ago.
Once more, it's all about the International Childcare Trust.... The ICT is a small, dynamic, charity. They rely on extremely generous donations from people like YOU to fund high impact projects in India, Kenya, Cambodia, Sri Lanka and of course Tanzania. These projects give deprived children and young people the essentials they need to build a life : shelter, healthcare, education, skills training and companionship.
On 2 October, I will be joining a small group of cyclists who will be braving 450km of dusty, potholed unmade roads to travel through the heart of in just 5 hot, sweaty and painful days. Apparently the locals have already heard rumour of the impending mission and are preparing themselves for the sight of a wheezing, unfit, slightly camp looking 30 something wearing nothing but stretch lycra and a gleaming, recently polished helmet. Hmmm....
I have been lucky enough to see first-hand how important the work of the ICT is for the many children who would otherwise be homeless, on the streets, selling their souls and more often than not their bodies from an impossibly young age just to stay alive. It’s for this reason that I have decided to put my body through another heap of pain and torture again this year. This year it’s , and this year it’s apparently tougher than ever. Brilliant.
At the end of the ride, I will be visiting a centre that is funded by the ICT to provide care, accommodation and a new life for many incredibly deprived and orphaned local children. I will be able to tell you first-hand exactly what your donations will be spent on and how much it will be appreciated.
It would be fantastic if you feel able to make a donation, however large, or small to this tremendous cause. Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: International Childcare Trust gets your money faster and, if you’re a taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
It kind of puts our economic challenges into a bit of perspective.
Ian
