Story

This is not what I thought I would be doing at nearly 40 years old!  I am doing it though to raise important funds for a charity to which we, as a family, owe a great deal.  Please read this to understand why we are raising money for a study into Familial Medullary Thyroid Cancer (FMTC).

FMTC affects my brothers and their families and, as it's so rare to find a group of people with the same genetic makeup and therefore the same potential to develop the cancer, the amazing Get A-Head charity is funding a study into our family and others with familial cancer, in the hope that we can pinpoint the nefarious gene that is creating such havoc.  The outlook for people with MTC is less good than with other types of thyroid cancer, partly due to the way it responds to the current treatments we have, and the earlier MTC can be identified, the better the outcome for the individual.  Get A-Head is funding a project that aims to improve diagnosis an management in the MTC by better understanding how the cancer develops at a genetic level.

Our target is £180,000 over three years and through a huge family effort and some generous fund matching, we have already raised over £120,000.

I would be so grateful if you would sponsor me and show your support for a fantastic charity.  Every penny helps - you can even text a donation through the link on this page.

Thank you for all your support x
