Story

Okay, so here’s the plan…

Imagine the quietest, fastest, safest all-terrain vehicle in the world...then imagine the opposite. Three wheels, 7 horse power and more fun (and unreliable) than any other vehicle on planet earth, the humble Rickshaw is undoubtedly the ultimate long distance, off-road machine. Despite being designed for short distances on road.

Now imagine the bliss of trying to get this untrusty steed through the deserts and cities of the entire length of India. This is the Rickshaw Run; an unsupported adventure which wobbles over thousands of miles of ridiculous terrain. Probably the craziest and most amazing thing we’re ever likely to do with two weeks of our lives.

In April 2012 Andy and Martin will be setting forth from Cochin in the south west of India and arriving two weeks and 2500 miles later in Shillong, a hilltop city in the north eastern province.

If the rickshaw breaks we fix it, If the road's broken, we go around it and if there's no "hotel" at the end of the day, we'll be under canvas. We won’t know where we are staying each evening – it depends how far we get.

Whilst we promise to enjoy ourselves for 12-14 hours a day behind the handlebars of this three-wheeled machine for two weeks straight, the aim is to try and raise a lot of pennies for some worthwhile causes.

Part of the deal is that the first £500 we raise goes to Frank; a clean water project for the poorest parts of the country we’re travelling through. Everything we raise beyond that will be split 50:50 between the charities of our choice. Andy is raising money for Queenscourt Hospice and Martin is hoping to raise cash for Kidney Research UK.

If you want to follow our journey please use our facebook page http://on.fb.me/indianink

To find out more about the adventure, go here The Rickshaw Run

Please donate some cash towards our chosen charities; every penny counts, every time you donate.
