Story

Two massive natural disasters have hit the Philippines In the last three weeks, causing wide devastation to communities and conservation projects run by the Zoological Society of London (ZSL), including sites involved in the Net-Works Program which was developed by ZSL, Interface & Aquafil.

$6.75 / £4.25 provides a relief pack for a household, containing food, water and basic medical and hygiene supplies.

$127 /  £80 rents a boat to transport and distribute relief packs to isolated coastal communities.

$366 / £230 provides building materials to repair a house.

On the 15th October, a severe earthquake (magnitude 7.2) hit Bohol and Cebu – two of the main islands ZSL has worked in for many years, and both Net-Works sites. More than 200 people were killed and much of the infrastructure has been badly damaged, including roads, bridges, buildings and historic churches.

On the 8th November 2013, Typhoon Yolanda (also known as Haiyan) hit the Philippines. With winds of 190 - 195 mph at landfall, making it the strongest tropical cyclone on record to make landfall in world history. The impact of the typhoon is severe and again has hit the Visayan region where we work, although we are still to understand the full extent of the devastation.

What we do know, is that thousands of people have lost their lives - many more are suffering.

The UN estimates 11 million people have been affected. Without proper shelter, food or clean water, they need our help

ZSL-Philippines (a Net-Works co-founder) are working with local partners, Feed the Children Philippines, to get shelter, food and clean water to worst hit communities in our Net-Works project sites. Our efforts are focused on 3 towns (Inabanga, Tubigon and Buenavista) and 8 villages, helping a total of 1,931 households. We are also developing a longer term recovery plan to support these communities who will be even more dependent on marine resources following these disasters.

THANK YOU
