Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
As many of you will know I have been a committed member of the Order of Volunteers for 13 years. This has previously involved going to , being a member of the OMV committee, running the Southampton Weekends, and organising the British delegation to attend The International Holiday Camp for 3 out of the 7 years I have attended. Now its time for my big final event.
Every year the International holiday camp provides disabled guests between 18 and 35 and their helpers with the opportunity to share a holiday and to experience the culture and hospitality of a different nation together with like minded people. This year the 27 International holiday camp will be, for the first time ever, hosted by in a wonderful venue in Bluestone, . To see a video of last year and find out more visit http://www.maltacamp2010.org.uk/.
I am in charge of co-ordinating over 400 people to come to Great Britain as guests, helpers & staff, travelling from over 20 countries as far afield as Sweden and Ukraine. Although I am not scaling any mountains, or running any marathons, I spend minimum 2 hours a week organising this event & form part of a dedicated, totally voluntary committee who are all planning fantastic visits to castles, beaches, St David's Cathedral and even the odd theme park. Our activities & entertainment teams are hoping to offer scuba diving, flying, concerts, a disco most nights and a host of other activities that will truly make this week unforgettable to our guests. We cater for all disablities and the week is all about friendship and enabling disabled people the opportunity to experience and learn things that they never thought possible. Some of my most treasured memories are taking a guest swimming for the first time since her accident, dancing the rock and roll with a wheelchair user and hearing that following a workshop at camp a guest had taken up the drums.
As well as subsidising some of the poorer countries to attend and paying for the cost of acommodation, food and transport for the week, below is an idea of some of the activities your donation will make possible:
To sponsor a disabled person to go horse riding £10
To sponsor a disabled person to learn to scuba dive £20
To sponsor a disabled person to go sailing/canoeing £30
To sponsor a disabled person to go on a ride in a hot air balloon £40
To sponsor a disabled person to go flying for a day £50
Any contribution you can make will make a difference, I really appreciate your support.
