Ishikawa Volunteers are part of Ishikawa Ajet, a group of English Language teachers and their friends, based in in . Earlier this year we commenced visits to an orphanage in Ishikawa, and at the same time we decided to raise money for orphans in .
Many of us have visited and seen first-hand how decades of war, natural disasters and the AIDS epidemic have left it as one of the poorest countries in the world. Over half the population of is under 18 and there are an estimated 52,000 children who have lost both parents. This growing orphan population, together with a high rate of child abandonment, means many children are forced to live on the streets and beg or forage through rubbish dumps for food. Many become victims of violence or the child sex trade.
CamKids is a secular charity which aim to help children in who are either poor or whose parents are not there for them. All the money you contribute will go directly towards their projects, including:
- the construction of new schools and orphanages
- the purchase of food, clothes and equipment
- funding for visiting doctors and dentists
- funding and support for teacher training in orphanages and rural schools
