On the 9th of January, 2010, a team from JKA Karate East Lothian took part in the BUPA Great Winter Run round Arthurs Seat in Edinburgh's Holyrood Park. As you can see from the photo's Skiing might have been more appropriate than running although the thought of why we were donig the run in the first place certainly made it easier. That said, a special mention must be made of the juniors, Hamish, Jake and Aaran who, despite their young years braved the elements to complete the Junior Run (2.5k) and of Stevie McLaughlan, who finished a 12 hour nightshift and came out to do the run rather than sleep. It has been some time since most of the team had done any sort of distance running and personally I was impressed with their efforts, enthusiasm and achievments. Well done to all.
However, don't think it's over. We still want your money and our service personel still need your help. If you can donate now we are immensly grateful, and you never know. Now that they've shown they can run a 5k, maybe the next one will be a 10k.
A very big thankyou to everyone that has helped us not only reach our target but surpass our own expectations.
"It’s about the blokes, our men and women of the Armed Forces. It’s about Derek, a rugby player who has lost both his legs, it’s about Carl whose jaw is wired up so he has been drinking through a straw. It’s about Richard who was handed a mobile phone as he lay on the stretcher so he could say goodbye to his wife. It’s about Ben, it’s about Steven and Andy and Mark, it’s about them all. They are just blokes but they are our blokes; they are our heroes. We want to help our heroes."
We are attempting to raise money for the members of our Armed Forces that have been seriously wounded or are suffering from long term injuries. They have lost limbs on our behalf. They have lost the use of parts of their bodies keeping us safe. We are asking you to give money to a charity that helps these people get started on rebuilding their lives.
Please help and give a donation. We only ask that you donate what you are comfortable with. Consider how the loss of that fiver/tenner/twenty pounds is going to affect you but also please consider how the loss of a limb or of their sight affects our injured.
That's it basically.
