"I have been accepted onto the Lasallian Developing World Project which takes groups of young people to poorer parts of the world in order to get involved with constructing houses, assisting the life of the local community and working with people within that community.
They carry out small-scale, sustainable projects, usually in rural areas where the opportunities for education are extremely limited and the aim is to slow down the migration of people to urban slums by helping them to improve their conditions in the country.
In July 2012, I will visit Tamil Nadu in India for 5 weeks with 11 other young people in order to assist the charity, Reaching the Unreached, to build 12 houses for a local community.
I need to raise £1300 for my fare, living expenses and building materials for the project. Along with my family and friends we are planning to hold different events in the next few months and would greatly appreciate your support."
