We work with rural Nigerian communities to help them get water they can drink

Story

I got the idea to walk 10,000 steps a day during Lent from my school, and decided that I wanted to raise money for this charity, Taste, who help Nigerians access clean drinking water.

Reading about what they do inspired me to raise money for these people who don't have access to clean water, and I hope you might consider sponsoring me and be inspired in the way that I have been. Below you can find some information from their website (http://taste.org.uk/) about the work they do and an idea of what any money you give could achieve.

The work of Taste is divided into a number of streams:

  • Geological surveying of potential water locations.
  • Community support in the development of sanitation systems. read more
  • Drilling services for boreholes to supply clean drinking water. read more
  • Water delivery to needy communities. read more
  • Visiting schools in Jos to teach children about the work of TASTE and to help them understand the importance of basic hygiene principles.
  • Taking a high profile approach to honest & ethical standards in business.

£10 will purchase a 2 metre length of blue alkathene pipe – known in the trade as casings. We need about 15 of these to line each borehole.

£40 will fund a teaching session for 200 children, when Grace teaches them about the need for good hygiene and clean drinking water.

£120 will pay for our survey team to conduct a full survey to show where we ought to drill to be certain of getting clean drinking water.

£220 buys an India Mark III handpump – just like the one in the picture.

£1000 will allow us to drill a subsidised borehole for SIM City Ministries – one of our key partners.

£3000 covers all the costs associated with providing a community with a clean water supply via a borehole and pump.
