Hi, and thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.  I'm raising funds for the Big Issue Foundation as homelessness is a much overlooked and misunderstood issue that I am passionate about.

I did it!  I drove a team of huskies 250km across the Arctic from Sweden to Norway.  Me and my fellow mushers had to erect our own tents, cook for ourselves (boil in the bag which I am now firmly OFF) and look after the Huskies.  It was probably the hardest thing I have ever done, both physically and mentally, but an amazing experience and now I really appreciate dry socks and flushing toilets.

If that's not a good enough reason to sponsor me, I also jumped out of an aeroplane on 6 March!  Wow - if you have ever fancied doing it - got for it, you won't regret it!  I've got a separate justgiving page for this cos it's done through Leicester Rag - www.justgiving.com/jacqui-noon-jump - you can donate at either - all funds raised will go to the Big Issue Foundation.

The Big Issue Foundation - did you know......?

The Big Issue Foundation (BIF) exists to offer homeless and vulnerably housed people the opportunity to earn a legitimate income. 

All sorts of people from all walks of life can end up homeless and drugs and alcohol are in the main symptoms of homelessness, not the cause.  It might surprise you to know how many war veterans end up on the streets (of all ages).  Read Brian's story here: http://www.bigissue.com/Brians_Story_90.php

Vendors are trained and must adher to a code of conduct whilst selling the magazine, which they buy for 75p  and sell to the public for £1.50.  This means that they must learn to manage their finances in order to continue selling.  

BIF's motto is  'a hand up, not a hand out'.  They recognise that earning an income is only the first step away from homelessness.  

By buying a Big Issue regularly you are directly helping an individual, by supporting the Big Issue Foundation you will be helping vendors across the country to access the support they need to really turn their lives around - health services, financial advice on savings and debt management, educational and employment opportunities and help with the cost of a deposit on housing, furniture and essentials.
