We support Edinburgh's Children's Hospital to help make time spent in hospital better.

Story

Hi thank you for taking time to look at our page. We are running the edinburgh marathon to raise funds for The Sick Kids Hospital in Edinburgh. My nephew James has had a tough start to life which has meant him spending much of his time in the sick kids hospital. See infomation below.
James Kirkham  Age: 19 months
Condition: Haemophilia A
James was diagnosed with Haemophilia A when he and his twin sister Zoe were only days old.
After a routine heel prick didn’t stop bleeding James was tested and we found out he had the most severe type of Haemophilia, type A, resulting in his blood not being able to clot the way a regular persons would.
This means that he can bleed uncontrollably, not only on the outside but also on the inside, which is much harder to detect.
Since birth James has had numerous small bleeds but two major ones on his brain, which have meant lengthy stays in the Royal Hospital for Sick Children in Edinburgh.
James requires daily treatment to give him a base level of protection to stop any bleeding from minor bumps, major bumps, or falls require extra treatment.
The hospital has numerous charities associated with it, but the main one is Sick Kids Friends Foundation. here is a little bit about them.
The Sick Kids Friends Foundation was set up in 1992 to support the work of the Royal Hospital for Sick Children in Edinburgh. The Hospital receives over 100,000 children through its doors each year from all over the East of Scotland.
We give assistance in five primary areas:
  - the provision of a wide variety of extra comforts, which make time  in hospital better for children
  - the provision of extra child and family-friendly facilities
  - the purchase of extra medical equipment over and above NHS provision
  - the provision of extra support for sick children who are cared for in the Community

- funding for extra training and research
Sick Kids Friends Foundation is a registered Scottish Charity, SC020862.
Each year we raise around £1.5 million to help children and families at the hospital. All our work is funded through donations from the public, companies, Trusts and Foundations and organisations who wish to help us tomake the Sick Kids even better.
The care that James has received from Edinburgh’s Sick Kids, has beenamazing. But the extra help and comforts that Sick Kids Friends Foundation provide for James and us as a family has made the times James has been in hospital bearable. Please help support this amazing charity.
Thank you
Jade, Brian and Dale.
