In January I will be taking on the Tough Guy challenge in aid of CINI’s work to help poor mothers and children in India.

Following an eight-mile (12.9km) cross-country run I will face a horrific two-miles, with 25 obstacles designed by a former Grenadier Guardsman. The task involves wading through energy-sapping mud and plunging into ice cold water.  I will face 30 foot obstacles, underground crawls through muddy wet tunnels, walking on slippery muddy planks across fire pits called the Fiery Holes, chest deep in water.  It will hurt!

Showing my softer side, I have also set myself the demanding goal of raising £500 for CINI’s work.  Given that you can pay a full time, fully qualified doctor for a fortnight for £23 in India, that should go a pretty long way!

CINI’s work helps to ensure that severely malnourished children in Kolkata have somewhere to go to be nursed back to health.  The charity makes sure their families have high quality support and training on providing a nutritious diet on the tightest of budgets, preventative health care, and the home treatment of diarrhoea.  CINI runs a mother and child health clinic used as a model of best practice, visited by 3,000 government staff and health personnel a year to help them identify ways of improving state services.  CINI also helps child labourers get into the mainstream school system, and stops them dropping out in the first place.

It is a fabulous cause, so make my pain worthwhile by giving generously and helping me reach the most important goal of making a difference. Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

Thanks so much

James

PS: If I don’t survive we hope you will make in memoriam donations to the charity!
