I have started this charity for my boy James as he was taken away from us so suddenly following a motor bike accident, when he was hit by a taxi driver who pulled across 3 lanes and hit him, catapulting him into the air resulting in horrendous injuries. Jay was taken to the Critical Care Unit (CCU) at Aintree Hospitals who gave Jay 24 hour care. Even though James had been put into an induced coma the staff were always so respectful of James dignity and spoke to him at all times telling him what they were doing to him. They were so meticulous in their care of James and always answered any questions I had (which were many), gladly and were always giving of their time to me. James lived for a further 5 days and even the staff caring for Jay in the CCU thought he was going to make it. Unfortunately my boy's heart gave out and he died at 12.55 on the 21st of October 2011 despite all the wonderful care he had received.

My boy was only 18 years old and was such a lovely boy. Since his death I have learnt so much more about my boy and that he was always there for others and had helped so many many people in his short life. He was loved by so many and always will be. I know that he would want me to try to help those people who cared for him as well as those patients who are unfortunate enough to find themself in the CCU.

Despite working so hard in the CCU, staff there are still able to give up their own valuable time to raise funds to equip every bed space in the Critial Care Department with an iPad for patient use. The aim is to empower patients who are unable to speak due to temporary airways being inserted, sometimes for weeks or even months at a time due to the patient's condition.

Through using the iPad patients will be able to communicate to their care giver, family and friends during a stressful time in their lives. The Critical Care Team believes this will relieve frustration and anxiety helping to build and maintain vital relationships.

Through using the various applications available on the iPad the team hopes to improve mental stimulation, communication and interaction, ensuring patients recover quicker

I believe this is such a worthy cause, as I know how much this would have helped my boy as he was such a lively and talkative person and would have been so stressed at being unable to communicate. Any donation, no matter how small would be greatly appreciated.
