Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

On September 14th, I shall be competing in the Challenge Weymouth Half Distance Triathlon and hope to raise money for the charity, The Eve Appeal.

I've taken quite a long time to choose a charity to raise funds for and have deliberated over the decision for many hours.

Our neighbour's cousin, Michelle Frost, is terminally ill with cervical cancer and Eve Appeal has supported her since her diagnosis. Shell's story was recently featured on ITV This Morning and although I've never met her personally, her positivity and strength was awe-inspiring and her story so very sad. The fact that her cervical cancer could have been diagnosed sooner though a cervical smear and thereby resulted in treatment to ensure a much more positive outcome. You can watch the feature on ITV This Morning at http://www.itv.com/thismorning/health/terminally-ill-with-cervical-cancer-screening-age

Update: Shel sadly passed away on Friday 8th August but will always be remembered by her family and friends. Let's try to stop another preventable death from cervical cancer.

Here are just two of the reasons I'm raising money for Eve Appeal:

(a) Every day in the UK 53 women are diagnosed with a gynaecological cancer and 21 will die, The Eve Appeal are determined to change thiis

(b) The Eve Appeak are the only national gynaecological cancer research charity in the UK

My challenge consists of a 1.9km swim in Weymouth Bay, 90km bike ride and a 23km run (over half marathon distance) back-to-back. I've only competed in much shorter triathlons to date (all sprint distance events) and Challenge Weymouth is likely to take me between 6 and 7 hours. Now there's a challenge!

Over the next 90 or so days, I'll be training hard for the event and that'll involve several training sessions each week incorporating swimming, cycling and running. On some days, my training will incorporate all 3 disciplines! You can keep up to date with how well I'm getting on between now and the middle of September via by blog at http://triathleteintraining.co.uk/

If you are able to sponsor me for this worthy cause, I'd be very grateful.
