Story

<p>Thanks for visting this justgiving page set up by me Catherine for&nbsp;James Handley.&nbsp; This is around where my contribution ends as it will be James doing the long hard slog that is the Jersey marathon.&nbsp; The full 26 probably hilly miles - for those who have visited Jersey! I'll be proudly cheering from the sidelines on the 1st October 2011&nbsp;as he pounds the streets for a charity we would both love to support.</p> <p><span style="line-height: 115%; font-family: 'Arial', 'sans-serif'; color: #1c1c1c; font-size: 12pt; mso-fareast-font-family: 'Times New Roman'; mso-fareast-language: EN-GB;">The money raised is&nbsp;for Max Appeal &ndash; a charity for families affected by 22q.11 Deletion Syndrome (also known as Di George Syndrome and Velo-Cardio Facial Syndrome). </span></p> <p><span style="line-height: 115%; font-family: 'Arial', 'sans-serif'; color: #1c1c1c; font-size: 12pt; mso-fareast-font-family: 'Times New Roman'; mso-fareast-language: EN-GB;">The syndrome </span><span style="line-height: 115%; font-family: 'Arial', 'sans-serif'; color: black; font-size: 12pt;">is a complex condition and estimates believe that it affects 1:200 people. Some of the common symptoms include, heart defects, development delays, learning difficulties, palate problems, emotional, behavioural and psychiatric issues, </span><span style="line-height: 115%; font-family: 'Arial', 'sans-serif'; color: #1c1c1c; font-size: 12pt;">kidney problems, neurological problems &ndash; in fact the list goes on and on......... there are over 180 related symptoms. </span></p> <p><span style="line-height: 115%; font-family: 'Arial', 'sans-serif'; color: #1c1c1c; font-size: 12pt; mso-fareast-font-family: 'Times New Roman'; mso-fareast-language: EN-GB;">Our&nbsp;nephew Jude was diagnosed with the syndrome aged one - just before his open heart surgery and after a long period of ill health. He receives help with his learning and development and is looked after by three hospitals and a whole host of other professionals. Despite all his set backs, Jude is now a happy and healthy little boy. Sadly other children born with 22q DS are not as fortunate as Jude and never make it home from hospital or live with complex debilitating medical problems.</span></p> <p><span style="color: #1c1c1c; font-size: 12pt; font-weight: normal; mso-fareast-language: EN-GB; mso-bidi-font-weight: bold;">Max Appeal&rsquo;s aim is to improve the quality of life for all those affected by the syndrome, to raise awareness of the condition and bring about permanent improvements in the social and medical care of those affected.</span><span style="color: #1c1c1c; font-size: 12pt; mso-fareast-language: EN-GB;"><strong> </strong></span><span style="font-size: 12pt; font-weight: normal;">Max Appeal is a small charity but is the largest in the world for this condition, income last financial year was just over &pound;51,000; </span><span style="font-size: 12pt; mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;"><strong>every donation makes a material difference to the work of the charity.</strong></span></p> <p><span style="line-height: 140%; font-family: 'Arial', 'sans-serif'; color: #1c1c1c; font-size: 12pt; mso-fareast-font-family: 'Times New Roman'; mso-fareast-language: EN-GB;">We&nbsp;would be extremely grateful if you would sponsor&nbsp;James and help this fantastic charity, which have been and continue to be a great support to my sister&nbsp;Trish and her husband Kev.</span></p> <p><span style="line-height: 140%; font-family: 'Arial', 'sans-serif'; color: #1c1c1c; font-size: 12pt; mso-fareast-font-family: 'Times New Roman'; mso-fareast-language: EN-GB;">Thanks again for taking the time to read this and we'll post the pics on the 2nd!&nbsp; For those reading this in Ireland I'll be holding a coffee morning to boost the coffers- with details to follow....</span></p> <p><span style="line-height: 140%; font-family: 'Arial', 'sans-serif'; color: #1c1c1c; font-size: 12pt; mso-fareast-font-family: 'Times New Roman'; mso-fareast-language: EN-GB;">James &amp; Catherine</span></p> <p>Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure.
