Donations cannot currently be made to this page

I'm raising money for Pulmonary Hypertension UK because I want to support my son Archie Strachan and all those who suffer from this devastating disease. · 3 April 2013

We are the only UK charity dedicated to supporting those affected by the rare disease pulmonary hypertension. Our mission is to provide support and information, fund research and promote awareness to help people live better lives with PH.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit Archie's JustGiving page.

3 years ago, our lives were dramatically changed when our beautiful son Archie was diagnosed with Idiopathic Pulmonary Hypertesion at the age of 2, it affects aproximately 1 in 3 million. We learned that his prognosos was very poor but with the right treatment things could improve. He is now on maximum medication and has just returned home after yet another hospitalisation at Great Ormond Street to compensate right heart failure. He is unable to attend school mostly because he just doesn't have the strength but also due to the risk of lung infections. He struggles to find the energy to express himself fully and feels very confused by his situation but he clearly has so much spirit and determination and he is a very normal little 5 year old boy who loves to play with friends and his sister Maya. It is hard for him to understand what is going on and at times he is clearly very frustrated. We spend around 45 minutes each day preparing medicine for a pump that feeds him vaso dilators 24 hrs, he is totally dependant on this to stay alive. He also recieves aural medicine throughout the day as well as constant weekly blood tests and hospital vsits. He has had to deal with alot in his short life and we are determined to make his life better. Up until last week, the only option remaining for him was a double lung transplant. In early June, he will receive open heart surgery that will hopefully reduce the pressure his heart is under and reduce the severity of his disease. We are very hopefull that this will help him to have a much better quality of life dispite the side effects that he might encounter. This will not cure him but it will hopefully buy him valuable time while we help to find better treatments and a cure for the disease. We are hoping to support a number of research projects to help find more effective treatments for the disease thus helping Archie and many others who suffer from PH.

Pulmonary hypertension is a trully devastating and horible disease. We ask you to give generously to help us wipe it out forever.

Archie is now home after a successful operation at GOSH. He became the first child in the UK to receive open heart surgery known as a "Pott's shunt" He is now free from oxygen support and is showing signs that he will make a sustained recovery. This will buy him valuable time while we support research projects to find a better treatment for the disease and even a cure. On Saturday the 22nd June, we held a charity auction event to raise awareness and funds for Pulmonary hypertension research. We have raised quarter of a million pounds so far! Thank you to all of you who have so generously donated to our cause. You have all left such wonderful messages and we have been deeply touched by your generosity, intentions and prayers from all over the world. This page will close down in one week so it is our last chance to encourage one last push! If you know of anyone who might like to donate, please forward our link. Thank you once again to each and everyone of you for all your love and support.

With Hope, faith and Love,

Jamie and Julia
