Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
Sylvia and myself are both mad keen open water swimmers who swim in the North Sea in Northumberland all year round WITHOUT A WETSUIT. We were looking for the ultimate challenge and we believe we found it when we were invited to take part in the Winter Swimming World Championships in Siberia this year in March. With air temperatures possibly as low as minus 30'c and the water temperatures also below zero we are really pushing our bodies to the maximum by taking part in this challenge. Chainsaws are used to cut through the frozen river ice and with fans turning to prevent the water from freezing, a swimming pool is created.
Why are we doing this? With both love the ocean and all its inhabitants. Jane is a volunteer marine mammal medic for BDMLR. She is on call 24 hours a day.365 days a year to respond to stranded marine mammals along the UK coastline. Vital equipment is needed to help deal with strandings where marine mammals can fall victim of oil spills, fishing gear entanglement, injury and illness.
Jane swam the freedom swim from Robben Island to mainland South Africa last year.for BDMLR and has invited Sylvia to join her in her fundraising to help purchase essential supplies including regional medic kits, whale disentanglement kit, dolphin pontoon sets, rescue boats & trailers
