My story

**Please don't donate any more money at the moment. I have been unable to do the GNR due to an ankle injury I picked up on Monday during what was to be my last big (10 mile) training run. I got to 7 miles then my Achilles (I think) started to bother me. I hobbled home and rested it all week, praying it would fix before today. I didn't even defer my entry, really hoping I'd be OK on the day. Yesterday I tried to jog just down the street, and it was obvious I wouldn't be able to run. I thought of walking it - not worrying about any PBs (seeing as though this was my first run), but as the day wore on I was limping just walking round the house. So regretfully I dropped my friends off this morning then drove home crying with frustration and disappointment all the way home.

I will endeavour to get my ankle fixed as soon as possible, and resume training and try and find a half marathon I can do within the next three months - before this page closes, to do justice to all of you that have so kindly donated to this cause. All I can say is that I'm truly gutted and sorry to have let you down this time.

I'll keep you posted on progress, and say thanks too to Ed and Mick who so kindly said they'd run the next half marathon I find with me - great support, most appreciated ;-) xx

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

So please dig deep and donate now.

I have always threatened to'run' the Great North Run - before I was 40. Well that milestone well and truly passed, and I'd still not got off my behind and made the effort. Then a friend of mine who has run for this great charity for a few years and always stays with us the day before the race turned my idle threat back on me earlier this year by telling me I could have one of his places for 2009. 'Try squirming out of that one!'.... So here I am, with 5 weeks to go, looking forward with trepidation at the daunting task ahead. Anyone who knows me knows I'm not the sporty type !!! and the training is not going quite as well as I'd planned, but I WILL do this, and in doing so want to raise as much money for the Clarke Lister appeal as I can.

The charity was set up in1996 by Clarke's parents, after he died suddenly of a brain haemorrhage. The charity promotes and funds research into causes and treatment of brain haemorrhage, sharing the results for public benefit. Importantly, it listens to, and supports victims and families of brain haemorrhages, offering a vital support network for them.

Please support this local, much needed charity by sponsoring me to complete (in no record time!) the 2009 Great North Run.

A very big THANKYOU
