Ok, so how did I get here? When I said that I would never ever run a marathon, I didn't just mean it, I really, really meant it! Running the Great North Run was hard enough but turning around and doing it all again - no thanks! When I foolishly entered the ballot this year, I didn't expect to get a place - most people enter for years before they're lucky (or not!) If I got a place, I would see how I felt, then make up my mind one way or the other.
What I didn't bargain on, was a call from my good friend and running buddy, Michelle, to say that she had been diagnosed with Lymphoma. A few weeks later, when I received the news that I had got in, the decision had really already been made for me, I would run for the Lymphoma Association which is based in Aylesbury (too much of a coincidence to back out)
So, that's how I got to where I am now - running five times/week with my long run increasing every Sunday. I have two running buddies, a silent squirrel chasing one who stops at every tree and hedge for the first mile and a human one who definitely isn't silent, doesn't stop nearly enough but doesn't pull me in to ponds! Their names are Stanley and Michelle.
As you will see, my target is to raise £2600.00 - hopefully pretty obvious - £100.00 for every mile that I run. Don't be deceived, Fitness maybe my profession but this doesn't mean it's going to be easy for me especially training when it's really cold so please, please give as generously as you can to help the Lymphoma Association and people like my friend, Michelle.
Please, if you are dithering at all about donating to my page, any amount will be gratefully received. Training can be hard at times and just knowing that people have already donated is the incentive that I need to get me outside sometimes! Please don't leave it too late- I need your help now - it really does mean a lot to me to know that all this training (currently running about 45 miles/week ) isn't going to waste. Thank you
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So please dig deep and donate now.
Thank you so much to everyone who has donated so far - I have been overwhelmed by everyone's kindness.
I am looking forward to tomorrow, sun hat and cream at the ready, and imagine that it's going to be a day I won't forget!!
WELL, I DID IT!! Needed a rain hat rather than a sun hat - didn't get overtaken by a rhino (just a bottle of beer!) and still have all my toe nails!! Donations are still coming in - the page doesn't expire until the end of July so there is still plenty of time if you haven't already donated.
