As I have entered the Snowdonia Marathon this year ,I've chosen to try and raise money for Llanberis Mountain Rescue Team in the process for several reasons.
Firstly, it seemed appropriate as it is a charity local to the event.
Secondly, it is one of the less "headlining" charities, and therefore needs our help all the more.
More importantly, the Llanberis Mountain Rescue Service provides an essential service around Snowdon and its surrounds. The Rescue Team is one of the busiest teams in the UK with between 50 and 80 call-outs per year.
The team is made up entirely of volunteers who live close to Snowdon. Guides, Instructors, Teachers, Plumbers, Park Wardens, Builders, Businessmen. All and more can be found in the team. They are all skilled and experienced mountaineers.
- Turning out in all weathers, day or night, 365 days a year, they share a common purpose. To help anyone who is in trouble on the hills.
