After my lovely wife was diagnosed with the dreaded Big C, I felt that I needed to do something to help support Cancer Research in the uk. The treatment and care given by the hospital staff was amazing and as we are now nearing the 5 year all clear it is now time for me to fulfil my pledge.
Since signing up to do this challenge, I have had a good friend diagnosed with testicular cancer and is now thankfully on the road to recovery, also my daughter's nan sadly lost her battle on Christmas day. She was a very special, lovely lady and will be greatly missed by everyone.
My perspective on life has changed because of this, and as a result in March 2012 I will be trekking Kilimanjaro to raise money and awareness. I will be travelling through four eco systems on my way to the summit, which is 5,895 meters. Mt Kilimanjaro is the highest mountain in Africa and one of the largest volcanoes ever to break through the Earth's crust. I will be trekking for 7 days and staying in a small tent with a stranger. (anyone who knows me will confirm 'I do not do camping at the best of times!!) So ease my suffering and make it worthwhile.
I know that cancer touches everyone's lives at some point and know that every penny raised will help to combat this awful disease.I hope you will help me help others, as every penny counts.
