Story
Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. This year, for the first time, I decided that my New Year's resolution should be meaning full. With this in mind, I signed up to my local Half Marathon. At the time it seemed like a good idea, I could get fit and help raise money for charity. However reality kick in when researching the event, Runners World rates the Marlow Half Marathon as the third hardest in Britain.
Without a doubt I have set myself a tough challenge. My last "competitive" race was the 1500m when I was 13 and it is about 15 years since I last did regular exercise. My training started in February and has so far included 4 races. These ranged from a short little 3.5 miles run around Battersea Park in London with another 12,000 people, to a slightly longer 10km race along the banks of the Thames on one of the hottest days of the year (see the photo for proof).
I am raising money for the charity Blind in Business, which was founded 17 years ago by three blind graduates. Blind in Business was set up to help partially sighted and blind graduates to compete equally with sighted candidates for good jobs.
Blind in Business operates mentoring schemes for partially sighted and blind school children. They assist with providing specialist careers and technology training to school children. In addition, they work with employers to raise the understanding of the challenges faced by job candidates.
