Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. Here's the plan!

287km riding at altitudes from 750m to 4236m from Machu Picchu to the Manu National Park, Amazon Rainforest, Peru.

Day 1 and 2 will see me travel starting on the 13th of September as I fly from Heathrow Airport to Lima in Peru. From there I will travel through the Andes to the Inca world capital called Cusco at 3326m altitude. (Hopefully my time spent in the Alps will help me prepare for that!)

up at 0430am (no preparing for that!) on Day 3 to travel to the lost city of Machu Picchu. If you havent seen Machu Pichu or dont know what or where it is - I recommend checking this out http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VaMI0bMwq_Q. I have to see this place! We stay overnight in a hostel in Ollantaytambo 1 hour from Machu Pichu and prepare for the riding ahead.

Day 4 starts in Ollantaytambo as we ride to the Sacred Valley to Pisac and the villages and river of Urubamba. The ride is 63km on mixed terrain and at an altitude of 3000m.

Day 5 starts in Pisac where we we ride up the steep Mountains of the Incas Sacred Valley to the Altiplano, 4236m altitude and riding on to Colcapata and towards Mount Ausangate and the distant Apolabamba range on the Bolivian border. 48KM riding for the day.

Its the descent to Paucartambo on Day 6 and the climb to Tres Cruces - the most challenging part of the journey. A 3 hour gruelling climb of 33k from 2973m altitude to 3547m and ride along the Manu National Park and catch our first views of the Amazon basin. Another 14km track sees us settle in Tres Cruses at 3900m.

Day 7 and its the Descent into Cloud Forest - another 63km. Our descent of 1400m sees us to the entrance of the Manu National Park where the Andean Bear has been sighted occasionally! I'll be looking out for that! We finish the day in the small community of San Pedro and its dinner around a campfire next to a beautiful crystal clear river

We cycle deeper into the rainforest on Day 8 on another 65km ride where its hot, humid and steamy. A short, sharp climb at the end followed by a fast descent sees us to the jungle village of Atalaya where we camp at 750m.

We are to make our way back to Cusco on Day 9 with the option of a 15km ride if I am not too broken by then! Our group will then enjoy a big meal in Cuso to commemorate what we have achieved and relax ahead of the journey home.

Day 10 we are on the planes back to Heathrow airport arriving on Day 11.
