Story
It's my birthday on Wednesday, October 17, and I have much to be grateful for. To that end, I'd like to use the day to give something back.
On August 31, my aunt Martha (Muffy) Plants Wheeler died. I'm not going to coat the news with a euphamism for death, because she had pancreatic cancer. It's a brutal and aggressive form of cancer, and it claimed Martin's aunt Marge as one of its victims several years ago. Both of them are deeply missed.
As I'm living in London until the end of the year and juggling work and family responsibilities here, logistics prevented me from returning to the States for Muffy's memorial service. I wanted to do something to remember her and help others who are fighting cancer today.
This is what I'm doing, and it's easy to help:
I'm hosting a coffee to benefit Macmillian Cancer Support:
Coffee & Cake!
Wednesday, October 17 from 1-2 p.m.
Drew University at The FSU London Study Centre
(just a block away from the British Museum)
So, if you happen to be in London on October 17, email me at plantastic@yahoo.com and I'll give you the exact address. If you can't make it, I hope you'll consider giving a gift here. You can donate whatever you like: 20p to £20. Just think what you might spend for a cup of coffee and a sweet snack when you're out and about and give that today to Macmillan Cancer Support.
I'm doing this to fight cancer and to honor the memory of my aunt--who loved a good cuppa and some good chat more than anyone I've ever known.
