My story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page!

On the 7th of February my partner, Giles Duley, was working as a freelance photographer in Afghanistan when he stood on an improvised explosive device (IED) whilst on patrol with American troops. He lost both of his legs and one arm in the explosion and also acquired a lung infection as a result of the blast.

Through his own determination and the efforts of the medic on the ground at the time of the explosion, staff at the United Nations hospital in Kandahar and staff at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham, Giles has pulled through and is currently undergoing rehabilitation at Headley Court in Epsom. He has already taken his first steps with prosthetic legs and is continuing to work on getting stronger with his new body.

In a landmark case, Giles is the first cilivian to have been accepted to a military rehabilitation centre. However, he is only allowed a certain period of time at Headley Court and much of his lifelong rehabilitation support is not covered by the National Health Service. Which is why I need your help!

I ran the Liverpool Marathon on the 9th of October for which people sponsored me over £5,000. I cannot tell you how much this sponsorship is appreciated and what a difference it will make to Giles' future. I am going to keep this page open in the hope that people will continue to donate and hope that we can raise a further £5,000 that will go towards Giles' rehabilitation costs.

The Queen Elizabeth Hospital has kindly allowed all donations received through this page to their charity to be directed towards Giles' Rehabilitation Fund. Our hope is that through our efforts Giles will be able to regain his independence and return to working for humanitarian causes as a photojournalist. If you are interested finding out more about Giles' work, please go to: www.gilesduley.com

Giles has dedicated his life to highlighting the resilience of those who are disadvantaged and telling their stories. Now it's our time to spread the news of his resilience and courage.

I have witnessed his bravery throughout his journey; from the weeks spent in intensive care up to his current efforts at Headley Court. I love him very much and feel so proud to call him my partner. Please help me support him and donate today. Thank you!

Jennie
